('Yellow pear', China)
Pyrus pyrifolia, also known as Asian pear, Japanese pear, Chinese pear, Korean pear, Taiwanese pear, apple pear, zodiac pear, three-halves pear, papple, naspati, and sand pear, is a species of pear tree native to East Asia. Its edible fruit is popularly used in East Asian cuisine and is also known as nashi pear. Cultivars of this tree are grown in various countries, including India, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. The fruit is typically served raw and peeled due to its high water content and crisp, grainy texture. In East Asian culture, the tree's flowers are a symbol of early spring and are commonly seen in gardens and the countryside. The pears are often served to guests or given as gifts due to their relatively high price and large size. In cooking, ground pears are used as a sweetener and in marinating meat. The fruit is also used in haiku and is considered a kigo, or "season word", in Japan. In Nepal and the Himalayan states of India, it is cultivated as a cash crop. In Taiwan, Japanese pears have become a luxurious gift since 1997
