Coscinium fenestratum, also known as yellow vine, is a rare and critically endangered flowering woody climber native to South Asia and Mainland Southeast Asia. It belongs to the family Menispermaceae and is known by many different names, such as Tree turmeric, False calumba, and Colombo weed. The plant has leathery, shiny leaves and bright yellow sap, and produces fruits in August to October. It can only thrive in a tropical climate and is primarily used in traditional medicines for various diseases and conditions. However, due to increasing demand and industrialization, the plant's natural distribution has been greatly reduced, leading to its listing as critically endangered in many habitats. Efforts are being made to cultivate the plant instead of harvesting it from the wild. The trade and export of Coscinium fenestratum is regulated, but illegal harvesting and processing still pose a threat to the plant and local ecosystems.
