Schoenus nigricans, also known as black bog-rush or black sedge, is a perennial plant native to Eurasia, parts of Africa, Australia, and southern North America. It can be found in various wetland habitats, such as marshes, bogs, and alkali flats. This plant grows in low clumps and has threadlike leaves with dark brown ligules. Its inflorescence is a small cluster of dark spikelets and its fruit is an achene with a hard, white shell.
