Decodon verticillatus, commonly known as waterwillow or swamp loosestrife, is a flowering plant in the family Lythraceae. It is native to wetlands in the eastern half of the United States and Canada, where it forms thickets and grows in swampland, ditches, streams, and shallow water at the edges of ponds and lakes. Its seeds have been found in fossil records from the late Campanian (73.5 MA) of northern Mexico, Pliocene to lower Pleistocene in Europe, and Ipswichian in Ireland. It is a clump-forming shrubby perennial with arching, angular, smooth and woody stems, lanceolate leaves, and rose-pink flowers. The larva of the hydrangea sphinx and the waterwillow stem borer moth feed on the plant.
