Bruguiera cylindrica is a small tree that belongs to the Rhizophoraceae family and is commonly found in mangrove swamps in tropical Asia. It can grow up to 20 meters tall but is often seen as a bush. The tree has smooth grey bark with corky raised patches and aerial roots that project from the soil in knee-shaped loops. Its glossy green leaves are simple and elliptical in shape and the flowers are pollinated by insects. The tree produces propagules, which are curved cylinders that later drop off and float in the water before rooting into the substrate. Bruguiera cylindrica is commonly found in Singapore and is often found on new deposits of silt. It is an important habitat for a diverse range of marine invertebrates, fish, and birds. The timber of this tree is used in construction and as firewood, and extracts from its pneumatophores are used in perfume production. Parts of the tree are also used for food and traditional medicine.
