Fragrance and cosmetics:
The flowers yield a concrete and absolute used in fine perfumery, and a distillate referred to as champaca or champak oil. In international trade, the absolute typically meets IFRA standards; perfumers cite its warm, rich floral note for heart‑note accords in luxury and niche compositions.

Properties relevant to use:
Flower absolutes and the distilled oil are complex blends dominated by benzyl acetate, linalool, methyl (E)-cinnamate, and various phenylpropanoids. These constituents account for the sweet, creamy floral aroma and confer strong odor impact and diffusion, supporting fixative blending and broad pH stability across neutral to mildly acidic bases.

Sustainability and sourcing:
Champaca is a large evergreen tree native to South and Southeast Asia; cultivation for the perfume trade occurs in India and China. Current IUCN Red List assessments (v3.1) list the species as VU A1cd, citing habitat loss and harvesting pressures. Responsible sourcing depends on cultivated material, controlled wild collection, and adherence to trade standards such as CITES and national plant export regulations.

Standards and regulation:
Champaca absolute and oil comply with IFRA Standards for fragrance materials, including recommended usage levels and any relevant toxicological guidelines. National and regional plant and timber export regimes apply where material crosses borders.
