Stachytarpheta mutabilis is a species of flowering plant in the verbena family native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant and has become an introduced invasive species in Fiji, Hawaii, Queensland, and Singapore. It is a perennial herb or subshrub that grows 10 to 20 centimeters tall, with oppositely arranged leaves and narrow spikes of red and pink flowers. The flowers attract a variety of insects, and parts of the plant contain the iridoid glycoside ipolamiide, which inhibits insect predation on the plant.
