Tephrosia purpurea is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, with a pantropical distribution. It is commonly found in India and Sri Lanka in poor soils, and is used as a green manure crop. It is also used as a fish poison, and has a variety of traditional uses in folk medicine. It is also used as fodder for animals such as goats, and as a green manure in fields. Its leaves and seeds contain tephrosin, which paralyzes fish, and larger doses are lethal. Extracts from the plant are also used in certain cosmetic preparations.
