Peltophorum africanum, commonly known as the weeping wattle, is a semi-deciduous to deciduous flowering tree native to Africa south of the equator. It grows up to 15 meters tall and produces showy sprays of yellow flowers at the ends of its branches. During spring, the tree may appear to be "weeping" due to the presence of the spittlebug Ptyelus grossus, which congregates on the young shoots and sucks the tree's sap, secreting pure water in the process.
