Anthyllis vulneraria, also known as common kidneyvetch, kidney vetch, or woundwort, is a medicinal plant native to Europe. Its name, vulneraria, means "wound healer." This plant can grow up to 40 centimeters tall and has yellow or red flower heads that bloom between June and September. It is the food source for small blue butterfly larvae and the leaf miner, Aproaerema anthyllidella. Anthyllis vulneraria can be found sporadically throughout Europe, Asia Minor, North Africa, and Ethiopia, and has been naturalized in North America. It prefers dry grasslands and rocky environments with calcareous soil. There are numerous subspecies of this plant, some of which are considered separate species by some authors.

Germination/Propagation Top

Suggest a correction or add new data!
Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment.
Requires Light or Surface Sowing: These seeds need light to germinate and should not be covered with soil or only very lightly. They are often very small and sown directly on the surface of the growing medium.
Requires Soaking: These seeds need to be soaked in warm water until they swell, which can take 24-48 hours. Seeds that float are usually not viable and should be discarded, along with the soaking water.
Sow seeds immediately as their viability decreases rapidly, or they best germinate when fresh. If stored, seeds might need temperature cycling and patience to germinate.
