Acacia melanoxylon, also known as Australian blackwood, is a species of Acacia native to southeastern Australia. It is a tall tree with dark grey to black bark and glossy, leathery phyllodes instead of true leaves. It produces small, pale yellow flowers and curved seed pods. The timber of this tree is highly valued for its decorative qualities and is used in furniture, musical instruments, and boatbuilding. However, it has also been introduced to other countries and is considered an invasive species in some areas. Indigenous Australians have traditionally used the tree for medicinal purposes and to make tools and weapons. The wood is also used for fishing and as a fire barrier.
