Common products:
The tree provides a dense, dark‑brown heartwood harvested as sawn timber, veneer, and fuelwood. The species is recorded by FAO’s “Timbers of Africa” (1994) among commercial timbers used for furniture, interior joinery, and flooring.

Industrial and craft applications:
The heartwood is valued for furniture making, cabinetry, interior paneling, flooring, and turned items such as tool handles and decorative objects. Its stability after drying makes it suitable for fine‑grain work where dimensional accuracy is required, and the fine, dark grain is prized for decorative veneer work. In addition to furniture and joinery, the wood is also employed in fine decorative work such as carving and inlay.

Wood and fiber:
Only the wood is utilized; the bark is not reported to yield commercial fiber. The timber is supplied in sawn form, as veneer sheets, or as solid planks for high‑grade applications.

Properties relevant to use:
The wood has a basic density of about 0.84–0.86 g cm⁻³ and exhibits low shrinkage (radial ≈4 %, tangential ≈6 %) during drying, contributing to good dimensional stability. Its natural durability is moderate to high due to extractives that impart resistance to decay, making it appropriate for interior uses where moisture exposure is limited. The high lignin content (typical of eudicotyledonous hardwoods) contributes to its hardness and resistance to mechanical wear, while its low equilibrium moisture content at indoor relative humidity (~12 %) supports dimensional stability.

Standards and regulation:
Timber from D. dendo falls within the scope of European Standard EN 13556 for structural timber and follows ISO 13061 methods for density determination. Export and harvesting are governed by national forest regulations in the producing countries (e.g., Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria) and by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) guidelines for sustainable trade.

Sustainability and sourcing:
The species is harvested as a minor commercial timber and is not listed in the CITES appendices. However, its exploitation in parts of its range has raised conservation concerns, and several national forest services encourage management plans that include selective harvesting and plantation trials to reduce pressure on natural stands.
