It is also used in traditional medicine for its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Salsola oppositifolia is a halophyte shrub that is native to the Mediterranean Basin. It is an annual, woody plant that can grow up to 2 meters tall and has cylindrical-linear and opposed leaves. The flowers bloom from May to October and are hermaphrodite, measuring about 1 cm in size. This plant was first described by René Louiche Desfontaines in 1798 and has been historically used for its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as a source of soda ash for manufacturing lye and soaps.
