Brassica fruticulosa, also known as Mediterranean cabbage or twiggy turnip, is a member of the important Brassica genus. It was first described by Domenico Maria Leone Cirillo in 1792. This plant has a similar smell to cabbage and broccoli when crushed and has a smooth, erect stem that can grow up to 50 centimeters tall. Its leaves are stemmed, with the lower ones being lobed and bristly, and can reach up to 15 centimeters in length. The plant produces small yellow flowers with four petals and a pea pod-shaped siliqua that contains brown, spherical seeds when mature. It is native to southern Europe and North Africa but has been introduced to other parts of the world, such as Australia and North America, where it has become naturalized. There are several subspecies and hybrids of Brassica fruticulosa, and it has been cross-bred with Brassica rapa.
