Patersonia fragilis, also known as swamp iris or short purple-flag, is a flowering plant endemic to eastern Australia. It is a perennial herb with linear leaves and pale violet to blue-violet flowers. The plant can grow up to 50 cm in height and has a flowering scape of 40-250 mm. It is found in heathland areas and reproduces through bee pollination. P. fragilis is also used in horticulture, but it requires a constantly damp soil. The plant is facing threats from plant pathogens such as Phytophthora cinnamomic and Myrtle wilt, which can be transported through soil and cause damage to the plant. Conservation efforts are needed to protect the wetland communities where P. fragilis grows.
