Macrozamia spiralis is a species of cycad found in New South Wales, Australia. It is commonly found in sclerophyll forests on low-nutrient soils and is characterized by its lack of trunk and 2-12 leaves that can grow up to 100 cm in length. The species was first described by Richard Anthony Salisbury in 1796 and was later given its current name by Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel in 1842. It was previously confused with another species, Macrozamia communis, which was later renamed by botanist Lawrie Johnson. The plant has acaulescent stems and produces male and female cones for reproduction. It is also known for its symbiotic relationship with cyanobacteria, which helps with nitrogen fixation. Macrozamia spiralis is found in central New South Wales and is protected in various conservation areas. It can be grown in pots or in the ground and has been used for various purposes such as producing alcohol and laundry starch.
