Solanum perlongistylum is a type of evergreen vine that belongs to the Solanaceae family. It is found only in Peru and is closely related to the domesticated pepino, S. muricatum. One of its distinguishing features is its long style, and its flowers have a higher ratio of pollen to ovules. It is unable to self-pollinate and has a diploid chromosome count of 12. It is believed to be a variant of S. caripense, along with another species called Solanum catilliflorum, which may have evolved in a different geographic location.
