Salpiglossis sinuata, also known as the painted tongue, is a flowering plant native to southern Chile. It belongs to the nightshade family and is characterized by its annual or short-lived perennial herbaceous growth, reaching up to 1 meter in height. The leaves are elliptic to lanceolate in shape and have a wavy or toothed margin. The flowers are funnel-shaped with five lobes and can be either violet or orange with darker stripes. This plant is commonly grown as an ornamental in gardens and has been introduced to the northern hemisphere since the 1820s. There are various cultivars available with different flower colors. It thrives in full sunlight and is a popular choice for its unique and vibrant appearance.

Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment.
Requires Darkness: These seeds need to be covered with soil or otherwise kept in the dark to germinate properly. Light inhibits their germination process.
