The seeds are used as an aphrodisiac and for treatment of various ailments such as fever, asthma, and rheumatism.
Argyreia cuneata is a perennial climbing shrub native to the Indian subcontinent, related to Argyreia nervosa. It grows from 150-200 cm and has soft white hairs on its stems. Its leaves are 6 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, with wedge-shaped bases. The flowers are purple and 5 cm long, and the seeds are brown, 1 cm long, and elliptically shaped. The seeds contain various ergoline alkaloids such as chanoclavines and lysergic acid amides. The leaves are traditionally used for treatment of diabetes, and the seeds are used as an aphrodisiac and for treatment of various ailments such as fever, asthma, and rheumatism.
