Saxifraga cotyledon, also known as the pyramidal saxifrage, is a plant found in the mountains of Europe. It has large rosettes of tongue-shaped leaves, reaching about 20 centimetres in diameter. In late spring or early summer, it produces tall panicles of white flowers that can grow up to 60 centimetres in height. This plant was chosen as one of Norway's national flowers in 1935. Its relationship to other "silver saxifrages" is still being studied. Saxifraga cotyledon has a distribution that includes Scandinavia, Iceland, the Western Alps, and the Pyrenees. In order to produce flowers, it may be necessary to remove and propagate side rosettes, as the flowering rosette dies after blooming.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Begin at 20°C for 6 weeks, cool to 4°C for 6 weeks, then gradually increase to 10°C over 6 weeks. If no germination, the cycle is repeated. |
Sow seeds immediately as their viability decreases rapidly, or they best germinate when fresh. If stored, seeds might need temperature cycling and patience to germinate. |
