Acer pictum, also known as yellow-paint maple, is a species of maple tree found in Asia. It can be found in China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and eastern Russia, primarily in temperate forests. This deciduous tree can reach heights of up to 20 meters and has gray bark. Its leaves are non-compound, thin, and have 3, 5, 7, or 9 lobes. The taxonomy of Acer pictum is complex, with different variations found in different regions. While some have classified these variations as separate species, others have grouped them all under one species. Further research is needed to fully understand this species. Currently, there are five recognized subspecies of Acer pictum in the Flora of China.
