Acer macrophyllum, also known as the bigleaf maple or Oregon maple, is a large deciduous tree native to western North America. It can reach heights of up to 48 meters and has the largest leaves of any maple species. The tree produces greenish-yellow flowers in the spring and paired winged samara fruits in the fall. It is often found in riparian hardwood forests and is a dominant species in cool and moist temperate mixed woods. The tree is used for its wood in furniture and musical instrument production, and its sap can be made into maple syrup. It is also an important habitat for various animals, including the barred owl and Hammond's flycatcher.
