Acer crataegifolium, also known as hawthorn-leaf maple or uri maple, is a species of maple native to central and southern Japan. It is a deciduous tree or shrub that can reach a height of 5-10 meters. Its bark is green with white or pale grey stripes, and its leaves are dark green to bluish green and may be either unlobed or three-lobed. The flowers are small and pale yellow, and the fruit is a paired samara that turns from pink to brown. There are two varieties of this species. It is difficult to propagate and is rarely seen outside of sizable collections. Some notable cultivars include 'Me uri no ofu' and 'Veitchii', which have striking white and pink variegation.
