Prunus mexicana, also known as the Mexican plum, is a species of plum tree native to North America. It can be found in the central United States and Northern Mexico, and is characterized by a single trunk and dark green ovate leaves. The tree produces fragrant white or pale pink flowers in the spring and dark red or purple fruit in the fall. It is similar to another species, Prunus americana, and can be found in a broad contact zone in Arkansas and Missouri. Prunus mexicana is part of the Prunocerasus section and is adaptable to a variety of habitats and soil types. Its fruit is eaten by animals and can be made into preserves. The tree is also widely cultivated in the western United States.
