The wood is used for making tools and arrow shafts.

Prunus ilicifolia, also known as hollyleaf cherry or evergreen cherry, is a native plant to coastal California and Baja California. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree with shiny, spiny leaves resembling those of holly. The plant produces small white flowers and edible cherries with a thin pulp surrounding a large stone. It is prized for its showy appearance and is commonly used as a hedge. Despite its name, it is not a true cherry species. There are two subspecies, one with red fruit and the other with blue-black fruit. Prunus ilicifolia is found in chaparral and foothill woodlands, and is a slow-growing but long-lived plant. It is an important part of the chaparral community, providing food for caterpillars and attracting bees. The plant is also used in landscaping and has edible and cultural uses, such as making jam and tools.
