Prunus fasciculata, also known as wild almond, desert almond, or desert peach, is a spiny and woody shrub that is native to the western deserts of North America. It can grow up to 3 meters tall and has horizontal branches with thorns. The leaves are narrow and arranged in bundles, and the flowers are small and white, blooming from March to May. The plant produces a small, ovoid drupe that is not edible due to its high cyanide content. Prunus fasciculata was first classified in 1853 and has since been reclassified as a subgenus of Prunus. It is found in the deserts of Arizona, California, Baja California, Nevada, and Utah, and is used by some Native American tribes for food and tools. Palaeobotanical evidence suggests that this plant has been present in the region for thousands of years.
