Prunus carduchorum, also known as چغالک in Persian, is a rare species of wild almond found in Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. It is a small shrub that grows up to 1.2 meters tall and is typically found in the Eastern Anatolian montane steppe ecoregion at elevations of 1500 to 3000 meters. It prefers to grow on marl slopes and in degraded oak forests. This species is closely related to other scrubby almonds found in the region. When crossed with Prunus haussknechtii, it was previously thought to produce Prunus × pabotii based on its morphology. The name "carduchorum" comes from the Carduchi, a wild tribe from Kurdistan who were known for their fierce attacks on Xenophon and his army.
