Geum aleppicum, also known as yellow avens or common avens, is a perennial flowering plant that is native to many parts of the temperate Northern Hemisphere. It can be found in eastern Europe, across Asia, and in North America. This herbaceous plant can grow up to 1 meter tall and has pinnate leaves. Its flowers are yellow and have five to seven toothed petals. There are two subspecies of this plant. It typically grows in forests, meadows, and along river banks, as well as in clearings and along roads. In Europe, it is mainly found in the Carpathian Mountains, eastern Poland, and the Baltic countries, while in Asia it can be found in European Russia, Siberia, and parts of China. In North America, it is widespread from Alaska to Mexico, with some disjunct populations in southern Kamchatka, Sakhalin, and northern Japan. It has also been introduced in Scandinavia and New Zealand.
