Ficus phaeosyce is a tree in the Moraceae family that is native to eastern New Guinea and endemic to the nation of Papua Niugini. It is a shade tolerant species that is locally abundant and is found in both tropical moist lowland and montane forests. The species was described by German botanists in 1900 and is characterized by its smooth leaves. It is an important food source for a variety of insect herbivores, including a specialized moth species. While the plant is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, its habitat is under threat and its population is declining.
