Pulsatilla vulgaris, also known as the pasqueflower, is a flowering plant in the buttercup family found in Europe and cultivated in gardens. It was previously classified as part of the Anemone genus and is closely related to it. It has various common names, including European pasqueflower and common pasqueflower. This herbaceous perennial plant has long, soft, silver-grey and hairy leaves and stems, growing up to 30 cm high. It produces purple flowers in early spring, followed by distinctive silky seed-heads. The plant has a rich history and is considered a Priority Species in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. It is also classified as Vulnerable in Britain. Pulsatilla vulgaris is commonly found in sparsely wooded pine forests or meadows with calcium-rich soil. It is the county flower of Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire in England. Varieties of this plant include the purplish form, as well as red and white forms. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit and can be found in the Cotswolds at the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust's Pasqueflower reserve.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment. |
Sow seeds immediately as their viability decreases rapidly, or they best germinate when fresh. If stored, seeds might need temperature cycling and patience to germinate. |
