Berberis laurina is a spiny and woody shrub that belongs to the barberry family. It can grow up to 2½ meters tall and has bluish green leaves that may turn yellow or red during autumn and winter. The plant is native to Uruguay, southern Brazil, and the Misiones province in Argentina. It is known as "espina amarilla" in Uruguay and "espinho-de-judeu" in Brazil. The leaves are simple, leathery, and have spiny teeth, while the flowers are light yellow and arranged in drooping racemes. The fruit is a small, oblong berry that is bluish black in color. This plant has multiple uses and has been studied in Argentina. It is also known by various taxon identifiers, such as Q5726282 and 50125133.
