Bothriochloa ischaemum is a species of perennial grass found throughout much of the world, commonly known as yellow bluestem. There are two varieties, var. ischaemum native to Europe, Asia, and Africa and var. songarica native to Asia. Var. songarica is an invasive weed in Texas, known as "King Ranch bluestem" and has displaced native grasses in large areas of central and south Texas. The species name comes from the Ancient Greek ischaemum, a styptic (causing ischemia).
