Mayaca fluviatilis, also known as bog moss, is a submerged plant native to Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the United States. It is often sold as an aquarium plant and has recently become naturalized in Sri Lanka, Singapore, and China through the aquatic plant trade. It has also been identified in Australia and is capable of growing in both wet soil and submerged environments. However, it can become invasive and form semi-floating mats that can block drains and irrigation channels. There is also concern that it may outcompete native plants in already threatened habitats. Research has shown that another aquatic plant, Hydrilla verticillata, may be useful in controlling the invasive growth of Mayaca fluviatilis.
