Cabomba furcata, also known as red cabomba or forked fanwort, is an aquatic plant native to Central and South America, as well as parts of Cuba and Florida. It can reach heights of 30-80 cm and is up to 8 cm wide, with purple flowers. This plant is commonly used in aquariums, but requires high light and regular fertilization for optimal growth. However, it has been reported as an invasive species in Kerala, India, where its rapid growth and stem propagation can block light and suffocate water bodies, negatively impacting the biodiversity and water quality. As a result, it is considered a threat to both the economy and ecology of the affected areas.
