Pemphis acidula, also known as bantigue or mentigi, is a species of flowering plant found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. It is a mangrove plant that grows on rocky shores and is the only known species in the genus Pemphis. However, recent studies suggest that there may be at least one other species in this genus. This plant is commonly used for its hard and heavy wood, which is resistant to rot and warping. It is also popular among bonsai enthusiasts and is considered a threatened species in the Philippines due to illegal collection and trade. In addition to its uses in traditional shipbuilding and bonsai, Pemphis acidula is also used to make tools and combs in various South Pacific islands. However, illegal picking of this plant in some areas has had a negative impact on the coastal ecosystem.
