Apodytes dimidiata, also known as white pear or umDakane, is a bushy tree native to Southern Africa. It can reach a height of 20 meters in deep forests, but is typically around 5 meters tall. Its fragrant white flowers and small black and red fruits make it a popular tree. It is part of the Metteniusaceae family and is often confused with Pterocelastrus rostratus. The tree is protected in South Africa and is commonly found in coastal thicket, afro-montane forests, and mountainous bushveld. Its slow germination and growth make it ideal for planting in paved areas, near buildings, and in small gardens.
