Dipterocarpus grandiflorus is a large, endangered tree species found in Southeast Asia. It can grow up to 50 meters tall and is commonly found in lowland evergreen forests, particularly in primary forests on drier sites and forested ridges. Its range extends from Bangladesh and the Andaman Islands to the Philippines, and it is often found close to the sea. However, its habitat is currently declining in quality and extent. The wood of this tree is used for charcoal, paper pulp, and timber, while its gum is used as a waterproofing varnish. Additionally, the tree has many other uses, such as nitrogen fixing, erosion control, soil improvement, and watershed regulation.
