Hypericum hircinum, also known as stinking tutsan, is a shrubby flowering plant in the St. John's wort family. It can grow up to 2 meters tall and has a branching base with grey-brown bark. When its leaves are crushed, they emit a goat-like scent due to the presence of caproic acid. This species is native to the Mediterranean region, specifically in countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. It was introduced to Britain in the 17th century and has not spread rapidly into natural vegetation. Hypericum hircinum has five accepted subspecies, each with its own unique characteristics and distribution.
