Industrial and craft applications:
Heartwood from mature trees yields durable, naturally decay-resistant timber. The wood exhibits a high lignin content and high-density structure, with documented performance in exterior construction and joinery in Madagascar. Logs are processed into sawn timber and utility poles. Sapwood is soft and perishable; heartwood is employed where durability is needed. The material seasons slowly but is workable with standard tools and accepts adhesives and finishes without issues. Tannins extracted from bark have been analyzed and classified as condensed tannins of high molecular weight; they are used to produce leather tanning extracts, forming complexes with collagen and providing stability and color to hides.

Properties relevant to use:
Wood density is approximately 0.85–1.05 g/cm³ (air-dry), with coarse, interlocked grain. The high extractive and tannin content confers durability and resistance to fungal attack. Bark condensed tannins have a high degree of polymerization and low susceptibility to oxidative browning. The hardwood exhibits high lignin and cellulose with low extractives suitable for pulp processes; resin content is low to moderate. No specific product use is documented beyond timber and tannin extracts.

Sustainability and sourcing:
Timber comes from native forests in northern and eastern Madagascar, with small-diameter stems predominating. Bark tannin extraction is practiced near logging sites; overharvesting risks depletion of older trees and habitat degradation. Current documentation confirms only logging and tannin bark extraction; additional uses (seed oils, fibers, essential oils, resins, food uses) are not recorded for this taxon.
