Heavy construction, general carpentry, and boat building. Native woods of French Guiana lists Moronobea coccinea (Aubl.) as “Carannah” and records its use as a local timber.
Industrial and craft applications:
A brittle resin, locally named “carannah,” is harvested from wounds on bole or branches and used for caulking boats and sealing wooden joints; it also serves as a strong adhesive for fishing lines, hooks, and tools after warming to soften it (per PROSEA and “Native Woods of French Guiana”).
Properties relevant to use:
The resin softens on heating, then hardens upon cooling, giving a water‑resistant seal and strong adhesive bond; wood is noted as locally employed in heavy and maritime construction (per “Native Woods of French Guiana”).
