Annona crassiflora, also known as marolo, is a flowering plant native to Brazil and Paraguay. Its unique flowers resemble jellyfish wearing hats, and its fruits are sweet and rough. While it has potential for cultivation, it has not been domesticated yet. The tree can grow up to 8 meters tall and has a straight trunk with corky bark. Its fruits, which are considered a delicacy in the Brazilian Cerrado region, are typically consumed fresh or used in various dishes and sweets. The fruiting season is between November and April, with the best quality fruits falling to the ground and emitting a strong odor. The plant's reproductive biology involves entomophilous pollination and the shedding of permanent tetrads for pollen. Unfortunately, deforestation and delayed seed germination have led to a decline in marolo trees, but efforts by researchers and cultivators have helped preserve the species in certain regions.
