Cassytha pubescens is a hemiparasitic vine species native to Australia. It is commonly known as devils twine, dodder-laurel, spilled devil's twine, snotty gobble or downy dodder-laurel. The species was first described in 1810 and has reduced leaves, with photosynthesis occurring through its stems. The stems are 0.5-1.5mm in diameter and have haustoria that are 2-3mm long. It is often compared to the genus Cuscuta due to similarities in their morphology and parasitic habit. The species has high variation in appearance, flowers, fruits, and trichomes. It is found in dry forests and woodlands along the east coast of Australia and has a wide range of hosts. It spreads through vegetative growth and uses haustoria to extract water and nutrients from its host. There have been suggestions to use it as a biological control for invasive hosts, as it has been found to have little effect on native hosts but significantly decreases the biomass and physiological capabilities of invasive species.
