Calycanthus chinensis, also known as Chinese sweetshrub, is a flowering plant native to Southeast China. It was first given a valid scientific name in 1964 and is cultivated as an ornamental shrub. It has been hybridized with two other species in the genus Calycanthus to combine its larger and broader tepalled flowers with their scented and more colorful ones. It is the only species in the genus Sinocalycanthus and is found in Zhejiang Province in China. It is hardy in zones 6-8 in the United States and can be propagated by cuttings or seeds. It has also been hybridized with North American species to create new cultivars.
