Stereospermum kunthianum is a deciduous shrub or small tree found in various African countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. It can also be found in parts of Asia. This tree can grow up to 15m tall and has fragrant pink or purplish flowers. Its leaves are imparipinnately compound and its fruits are slender, flat, and paired pods that release many flat, long, narrow seeds. The tree is often used in traditional medicine for various ailments, and analysis has shown the presence of sterols, coumarins, and higher fatty acids in its extracts.
