Senna wislizeni var. wislizeni, Senna wislizeni var. fruticosa, and Senna wislizeni var. glabrata.
Senna wislizeni, commonly known as Wislizenus' senna or shrubby senna, is a perennial, deciduous shrub native to Chihuahua and Hidalgo in Mexico, and Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona in the U.S. It can reach up to ten feet (3 meters) tall with a ten-foot spread, and has compound foliage. In summer, it bears yellow flowers that develop into long, flat, dark brown pods. The species is named after F. A. Wislizenus, a botanist who studied Mexican flora in the mid-19th century. There are several named varieties, including Senna wislizeni var. wislizeni, Senna wislizeni var. fruticosa, and Senna wislizeni var. glabrata. It is a desert plant with good heat and drought tolerance, and is visited by carpenter bees, bumblebees, and sulphur butterflies.
