Lupinus excubitus, also known as the grape soda lupine, is a species of lupine found in the Southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is characterized by its sweet scent, reminiscent of grape soda, and its gray-green foliage with fan-shaped leaves. The plant produces tall stalks of rich purple flowers with a bright yellow spot, although some variants have white flowers. Its fruit is a silky legume pod containing mottled brown seeds. There are several named variants of this species, each with its own unique characteristics and distribution. Lupinus excubitus can be found in popular national parks such as Death Valley and Joshua Tree.
