Intsia bijuga, also known as Borneo teak, Johnstone River teak, Kwila, Moluccan ironwood, Pacific teak, scrub mahogany, and vesi, is a flowering tree native to the Indo-Pacific region. It can grow up to 50 meters tall and is commonly found in mangrove forests. The tree has a variety of uses, including traditional medicine, as well as being a highly valued material for its durable and termite-resistant wood. However, due to extensive logging, the tree is endangered in many places and almost extinct in some. Greenpeace has raised concerns about the illegal logging of this tree and its import into China, where it is used for flooring. In New Zealand, attempts have been made to ban the sale of the wood, but it remains a popular choice for local carvers. Intsia bijuga is also the official tree of Guam, where it is illegal to cut live trees.
