Astragalus danicus, also known as purple milk-vetch, is a perennial herb in the legume family native to Europe. It grows up to 30 cm tall with blue and purple flowers and dark brown fruit pods. This species is mainly found in dry grasslands over limestone or chalk, and is pollinated by bees. It has been in decline since the 18th century due to agricultural practices, and is now considered endangered. In herbal medicine, it has been used to combat high blood pressure. The genus name, Astragalus, has various meanings, and the species epithet, danicus, refers to its first identification in Denmark. The common name, purple milk-vetch, comes from the belief that cows fed with this plant produced more milk.

Expose seeds to natural outdoor winter conditions for 3 months, then gradually increase light and temperature in the spring.
Resents Transplanting: These plants do not tolerate the disturbance of their roots well. It's best to sow these seeds in their final growing location or in a container from which they can be moved without disturbing the root ball.
Requires Scarification: Scarification involves physically breaking, scratching, or softening the seed coat to allow water absorption and germination to occur. This can be done by nicking the seed coat with a knife or rubbing the seeds between sheets of sandpaper.
Requires Soaking: These seeds need to be soaked in warm water until they swell, which can take 24-48 hours. Seeds that float are usually not viable and should be discarded, along with the soaking water.
put in deep pot; protect from damping off
