Datisca cannabina, also known as false hemp, is a flowering plant found in various regions including the Aegean Islands, Crete, and Central Asia. It is unique in that it exhibits true androdioecy, with both male and hermaphroditic individuals. This tall perennial plant can reach a height and spread of 2.5 meters and has bright green leaves and tassels of small green and white flowers. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and is often used by local artisans for its roots, which produce a fast yellow dye.
