Traditional uses of Phytolacca dodecandra (endod) are recorded in several East African ethnobotanical surveys. Among the Amhara and Oromo peoples of the Ethiopian highlands, a leaf infusion (tea) is taken for fever and malaria, a practice reported by Girma et al. (2017) and corroborated by Mekonnen et al. (2008). In Kenya’s central highlands the Kikuyu and Luhya communities brew a mild leaf tea to relieve gastrointestinal upset, a use documented by Kinyua & Oyieke (2013).
